Happy Third Birthday
Turner’s Barbershop is three years old. Three years since opening the doors. Three years of building a regular customer base and overcoming challenges. To help celebrate I thought I would write an overview of the past 1,095 days of Turner’s Barbershop, Worthing.
Starting out my very first solo business venture was as stressful and financially straining as you would expect. Finally getting the keys in my hands was a long overdue moment of joy and the process of gutting out and refurbing the unit was the first difficult phase.
Turner’s Barbershop, Worthing opened in February 2022 with a modest charge of well-wishers and previously retained customers making the journey over from Brighton. After the first few piles of hair were swept away the grind began and the realistic targets were set.
The goal is and always was to provide a top tier service alongside a great haircut. As soon as the first wave of return customers began to walk back in I knew things would end up OK and that choosing Worthing as a place to set-up was a promising idea.
The weeks went by and the regulars started to stack up and soon enough (through gentle encouragement) my pleas for customers to pre-book their haircut appointments via the Booksy app led to my first fully booked day - a massive achievement!
Turner’s has had some major challenges including a massive leak from the flat above causing extreme damage to the ceiling at the shop and in general a struggle to recruit and retain a permanent team member.
Not wanting to focus too much on the negatives I’ll just say that pouring out litres of water gathered in several buckets a few times a day for a couple of months was hands-down the most upsetting and stressful moment the shop (and myself) has been through - but with the support of customers, friends and family things got sorted and the shop has thankfully been dry as a bone for ages now!
Recruiting a team member who not only clicks with myself and adds something positive to the atmosphere is a big puzzle piece I hope to find in 2025. The hunt continues.
Turner’s Barbershop has been incredibly busy for a very long time now with routinely fully booked days well in advance. Occasionally a fully booked week happens which is such a nice and endlessly fulfilling feeling for which I’m always grateful.
Sticking with the annual tradition, during Birthday Week a percentage of the weekly profit will be donated to a local Worthing-based charity.
Thanks for reading. Here’s to another year and as always…
Long Live Turner’s Barbershop
